Matteo Monzali

Bio

Matteo is a documentary photographer with a scientific background in physics. After his academic path, he decided to work in photography, studying professionally at Studio Marangoni in Florence and working as a photographer's assistant. The double perspective, scientific and visual, runs through all his work. He believes science should communicate also visually, other than just with data and plots. A photograph, unlike a graph, raises questions before it gives answers, and reaches audiences in ways that numbers alone cannot, so that the two methods can complement each other. He specialises in environmental and scientific photography, showing the relationship between humankind and nature in different contexts, from laboratories to the natural world.
